The REALM program
Project-based learning, design thinking, and public exhibition
REALM built its program on a structural bet: that students retain academic content more durably when it is embedded in projects with real stakes and a real audience, rather than taught alongside them and assessed privately.
In practice that meant extended projects running over weeks, driving questions the teacher could not fully answer in advance, and exhibitions and builds presented to audiences beyond the classroom. Conventional grades sat alongside that work rather than replacing it.
Love, grit, action
The school stated its principles as love, grit and action, and published them under that heading. The phrasing was unusual for a public school and it was meant literally: relationships first, persistence through difficulty, and work that leaves the building.
